The new Toyota SinoHytec Fuel Cell research, development, and production hub for hydrogen fuel cells has officially begun operations in China.

With the start of its activities, the joint venture between the Japanese automaker, fuel cell manufacturer Beijing SinoHYtec, and United Fuel Cell System Research and Development Beijing has entered its first operational phase. The facility, covering 44,000 square meters, is designed to produce 10,000 fuel cell systems per year.

Second phase to begin in 2026.

The second phase, scheduled to begin in 2026, will expand the total area of the factory to 113,000 square meters. As highlighted in Toyota's official statement, the launch of this facility marks a strategic step toward establishing a fully integrated fuel cell production chain for the Chinese market, covering everything from research and development to production, sales, and after-sales services.

Tatsuro Ueda, CEO of Toyota China, emphasized that hydrogen technology is already widely adopted in the country across various sectors, including buses and heavy-duty trucks used in cold-chain logistics and freight transport.

"In a market that is growing at an incredible pace," said Ueda, "we expect the advantages of hydrogen technology to be increasingly leveraged in practical applications, such as long-distance logistics, to help achieve a carbon-neutral society through the widespread adoption of fuel cell electric vehicles."
